Kite safari for couples when one partner doesn't kite

Yes, you can do a kite safari with a partner who doesn't kite. You both just need to know that the boat follows the wind for a week, and the non-kiter should enjoy water, sun and quiet.

You can do a kite safari as a couple even if only one of you kites. Mohamed, who runs the safari out of Hurghada, welcomes non-kiters on board. Before booking a kite safari for couples, make sure you both understand the programme: the boat moves between islands according to the wind, with 2 kite sessions scheduled each day from day 2 to day 6.

I have been on this safari several times and I have known Mohamed for years. If your partner likes water, sun, a book in the shade and a snorkel, I would consider it. If they want to explore a new town every day, this programme may not suit them. Before booking, I would go through it together and agree on how to spend the time when the kiter is on the water.

What the non-kiter actually does

You can borrow snorkeling gear on board, join the morning yoga or head to the beach with everyone else. Diving and massages cost extra:

Activity Included?
Snorkeling, gear on board yes
Wakeboarding behind the boat yes
Fishing gear yes
Morning yoga (in the programme on days 2-6) in the programme, not listed as an extra
Beach camp on the island: tent, carpet, water, cold drinks, fruit yes
Wi-Fi on board yes
Diving Price list: €50 per 45-minute dive, with 2 dives specified; confirm the conditions when enquiring
45-minute massage €35

The boat has a sun deck, a jacuzzi and a bar. Guest Daniela Kohnová praises the food in her review: "even vegetarians would find something to their liking".

If you are interested in diving and snorkeling on a kite safari, I would ask about Gubal. It has coral reefs and lies near the wreck of the SS Thistlegorm, a famous dive site. The boat only goes there when guests want to dive, so put it in your enquiry and mention it again at the welcome briefing on board.

A day when one of you kites and the other doesn't

From day 2 to day 6 the programme has a fixed shape: yoga and breakfast in the morning, the boat moves to an island depending on the forecast, a morning session, lunch on the boat, an afternoon session, then dinner with video analysis of the rides, or a BBQ on the boat or the beach.

For a couple that means there are 2 sessions a day for kiting, with lunch and evenings available to spend together. In between, the non-kiter can stay on the boat or go over to the island with everyone else and sit in the beach camp.

Tawila has a steady 15-25 knots (8-13 m/s) and sandy beaches where you can rest between sessions. The boat only goes there by prior arrangement, because landing on the island costs a fee. Around Geisum, you may see dolphins while cruising between spots. The kite spot map shows where the islands are.

When planning a kite safari in Egypt, expect to spend most of the trip around islands and kite spots; the scheduled return to Hurghada is on day 7.

A double-bed cabin and the cost per couple

The base price for 2026 is €1,250 per person for a week (8 days, 7 nights) in a twin cabin with 2 separate beds. If you want to share a bed, you pay a supplement:

Cabin Supplement Total per couple
Twin cabin (2 beds) €0 €2,500
Cabin with a double bed €100 per person €2,700
TOP SEA VIEW suite with a double bed €200 per person €2,900
Cabin with a double bed and wood panelling

The price covers air conditioning, a fridge, a toilet and a shower in the cabin, full board with 3 meals a day, snacks, soft and alcoholic drinks, and transfers from the airport to the yacht and back. Not included: flights to Hurghada, the visa, travel insurance (the kiter needs a policy that covers kiting) and the fee for the marine national parks, the marina and the crew tip. The website says €100 for that fee, while the 2026 offer mentioned €150 per person. Budget €100 to €150 and the organiser will confirm the exact amount with your dates.

There is no non-kiter price on the website. The price list only distinguishes cabins. I would say in the enquiry straight away that one of you doesn't kite and ask whether that changes the price. The kiter, on the other hand, pays €300 for a full set of gear for 6 days if they don't bring their own.

If the non-kiter wants to try

If your partner spends a few days on the beach and decides to give it a go, the safari has the right conditions. On Abu Mungar there is a small lagoon with shallow, calm water and a sandy bottom, suitable for beginner lessons.

In April 2024 we took 8 beginners on the safari. We spent the first 2 days on Geisum. Day 1 was hard work, and by the middle of day 2 everyone was riding. Don't take that as a promise that your partner will do the same: it depends on the wind, the instructor and how much they put into it.

The beginner course costs €600 for 6 days including gear. If they just want a taste, the price list has private lessons at €65 an hour. When choosing a kite safari for beginners, I would also ask what your partner will learn beyond getting up and riding. Riding within a week does not, on its own, mean they are an independent kiter. They should check with their instructor which skills they can perform safely and what still needs practice, including riding upwind and self-rescue.

No wind, little privacy and parties

I would talk these through with your partner before booking.

No wind. The boat picks the islands by the forecast, but nobody can guarantee wind. Agree beforehand on what you would like to do on a windless day. Snorkeling when conditions allow, or relaxing on board, might suit you both, but I would talk about it rather than assume.

Little privacy. You spend a week on a boat with other guests and the crew. Even the standard cabin with 2 beds gives you a room of your own as a couple; the double-bed supplement lets you share a bed. Before booking, decide whether life on board a kite safari yacht suits you, including the shared deck and group programme.

Parties. The evening programme includes a BBQ, music and the option of a party on board or a quiet evening. If you prefer quiet, ask what evening activities are planned for your trip when you book.

Couples I would not send on a safari

  • The non-kiter wants to see towns, sights and shops. The programme focuses on islands and kite spots, with the return to Hurghada scheduled for day 7.
  • The non-kiter gets seasick. You sleep, eat and travel on the boat for a week.
  • Neither of you wants to spend hours in the sun and the water.

For these couples, I would consider a hotel near a mainland spot and check how far it is from town and whether it has a pool. The Paradise Kitesurf lagoon is between Hurghada and El Gouna. When choosing between a kite safari, kite camp and beach hotel, I would start with what you both want to do while the kiter is on the water.

What to put in the enquiry when one of you doesn't kite

Enquiries go through the form on the kite safari Egypt page. I would include straight away:

  • that one of you doesn't kite, and whether that changes the price,
  • which cabin you want (2 separate beds, a double bed or the suite),
  • whether you want to dive and visit Gubal, and whether you hold a diving certification,
  • whether the non-kiter would like a lesson or the full course,
  • whether the kiter is bringing their own gear.

Questions

Can a non-kiter come on a kite safari?

Snorkeling gear, wakeboarding behind the boat, fishing gear and the island beach camp are included, with yoga in the morning programme. Diving costs extra: the price list gives €50 per 45-minute dive and also specifies 2 dives, so ask what that means when you enquire. A massage costs €35 for 45 minutes.

How much is a kite safari for a couple with a double bed?

On the 2026 price list a week costs €1,250 per person in a twin cabin. A cabin with a double bed adds €100 per person, so €2,700 per couple. On top come flights, the visa and the marine park, marina and crew tip fee of €100 to €150 per person.

Do non-kiters pay less on a kite safari?

The organiser's price list only distinguishes cabin types, not whether you kite. There is no separate non-kiter price on the website, so ask about it in your enquiry.

Can my partner learn to kite on the safari?

Yes. The beginner course is €600 for 6 days including gear, and a private lesson is €65 an hour. How fast it goes depends on the wind, the instructor and your partner.
