Air Cairo kitesurf equipment: fees, weight limits and how to pack

Air Cairo lists kites and kiteboards by name among its sports equipment. You pay per one-way flight, prepaying is cheaper, and you can register the bag until 8 hours before departure.

Air Cairo will carry your kitesurf equipment and lists Kite/Kite Board by name on its sports equipment page. The bag can weigh 23kg and be 2m long at most. On an international flight it costs USD 90 prepaid or USD 110 at the airport, per one-way flight.

This is based on Air Cairo's website on 25 October 2026. Air Cairo prices sports equipment in US dollars, so that's what I use here.

How other airlines compare is in flying with kite gear: airline fees and packing.

What's different about Air Cairo

What fits in one bag

Under surfboards and windsurfs, Air Cairo spells out what one kiteboard bag may hold: at most 2 boards, 3 kites, harness, bar with control and safety lines, and a wetsuit. You have to report the bag's dimensions so they can check it can be carried. The Kite/Kite Board item itself is limited to 23kg and 2m.

One item per passenger

Air Cairo carries one sports item per passenger. Two people with two kite bags means one bag per person.

Charter flights and package holidays

On Air Cairo charter flights the baggage allowance may differ; unless your ticket says otherwise it's 1 piece of 23kg. Air Cairo doesn't publish separate sports equipment prices for charters. On a package holiday, ask the tour operator what the kite bag costs and where you pay.

No higher value declaration

According to its conditions of carriage, Air Cairo doesn't currently offer an excess valuation facility. So you can't raise the liability limit for expensive gear, which makes your own insurance all the more important. Report damage as soon as you discover it, in writing within 7 days, and delays within 21 days. Claims aren't accepted without the baggage tag, so keep it.

CO2 and batteries

Air Cairo's restricted items list bans compressed gases, flammable or not, and doesn't mention an exception for life vest cartridges. Its conditions of carriage do say that some dangerous goods are allowed with the carrier's approval: send a request describing the item one week before travel to [email protected]. I wouldn't pack a vest with a CO2 cartridge without that approval.

  • Power banks: up to 20,000mAh at most 2, 20,000-32,000mAh at most 1, nothing bigger. No charging or use on board.
  • No marking: batteries and power banks without a clear Wh or lithium content rating aren't carried.
  • Spare batteries 100-160Wh: carry-on only.

General battery rules are in the guide to flying with kite gear.

Practical tips

  1. Weigh and measure the bag at home: 23kg and 2m. You'll need the dimensions when you register.
  2. Save the payment confirmation and have it at the desk.
  3. Arrive early: with excess baggage Air Cairo wants you at the airport 90 minutes earlier, and I'd allow the same with a kite bag. Check-in closes 60 minutes before departure.
  4. Packing: fins off the board, kites deflated, bar wrapped. More in kiteboard bags and flying with your gear.

Where Air Cairo can take you kiting

Air Cairo's destination list includes, among others, Prague, Vienna, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan, Paris and Budapest in Europe, and Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt. The flight search on its website shows which connections are running.

The spots around Hurghada are in kitesurfing in Hurghada and El Gouna, Marsa Alam and the rest of the coast in kite spots in Egypt.

On the kite safari in Egypt I go on, there are pumps and a compressor on board and a twintip costs €60 for 6 days (2026 prices). You can leave the board at home, and with a 23kg limit that frees up room for kites. The kite safari packing list covers what else to bring.
