Binter kitesurf equipment: fees, weight limits and how to pack
Binter names kitesurfing equipment on its sports list. Between the Canary Islands it travels within your allowance with an extra 5kg; on other routes it costs €50 or €75 depending on size and weight.
Binter carries kitesurf equipment and names kitesurfing gear directly on its sports equipment list. On inter-island flights in the Canaries, the kite bag goes within your allowance and you get 5kg extra. On other routes (mainland Spain, Europe, Africa), sports equipment up to 23kg and 160cm costs €50; bigger or heavier, up to 32kg, it's €75.
Two things I'd sort out first: you have to reserve space for the gear at least 48 hours in advance, and no item may be longer than 165cm on ATR aircraft.
This is based on Binter's website on 25 October 2026. The general side of flying with kite gear (packing, batteries, claims) is in flying with kite gear: airline fees and packing.

| Weight | 20kg allowance + 5kg extra, max 32kg per bag | 23kg (€50), 32kg (€75) |
| Length | max 165cm (ATR), 230cm (Embraer) | max 165cm (ATR), 230cm (Embraer) |

Binter's website doesn't say whether the €50 or €75 fee is per flight or per trip. Ask when you reserve the space.
What a return trip costs
| Situation | Return |
|---|---|
| Inter-island, kite bag and suitcase up to 25kg in total | €0 extra |
| Canaries - mainland Spain or Morocco, kite bag up to 23kg and 160cm | 2 x €50 = €100 (if per flight) |
| Same, bag over 160cm or 23-32kg | 2 x €75 = €150 (if per flight) |
| Basic fare, kite bag up to 23kg + prepaid suitcase | 2 x (€50 + €25) = €150 (if per flight) |
On the Basic fare, a suitcase costs €25 if you pay more than 3 hours before departure and €40 at the counter. The Plus fare includes 1 bag up to 23kg. Sports equipment isn't part of the allowance on non-inter-island routes, though, so you pay for it on Plus too.
What's different about Binter
160 and 165cm: the two numbers that matter
Up to 160cm for €50
On routes other than inter-island flights, the €50 rate only covers bags up to 23kg and up to 160cm in any dimension. A kite bag with a board that doesn't fit in 160cm costs €75. The hard limit is 165cm on ATR aircraft and 230cm on Embraer aircraft.
Binter's sports equipment page doesn't say which aircraft flies which route. I'd ask when reserving the space, because on an ATR anything over 165cm won't fly.
Inter-island: like a normal bag
On inter-island flights in the Canaries, sports equipment is part of your allowance. The fare includes 20kg and sports equipment gets you 5kg extra, so you only pay excess above 25kg in total. The per-kilo price depends on the route, and no single bag may exceed 32kg.
Reserve space 48 hours ahead
Carriage depends on hold space, so Binter wants sports equipment reserved at least 48 hours before the flight. You can do it at its airport sales offices, through a travel agency or via its call centre. For non-inter-island flights, do it where you bought the ticket.
Kite bags usually can't go on the normal baggage belt. Staff decide on special handling to the aircraft, and any cost is yours. Arrive in good time.
Batteries and gas cartridges
- Power banks: up to 2, each up to 100Wh (or 2g of lithium), cabin only, under the seat or in the seat pocket, never in the overhead bins. No using or charging them during the flight.
- Spare batteries: cabin only, in their original packaging, or with taped terminals and each in its own plastic bag.
- CO2 cartridges for a life jacket: we couldn't find Binter's rules on its website on 25 October 2026. Ask when you reserve the space.
How to pack a bag that survives the baggage handlers is in kite board bags and flying with your gear.
Practical tips
- Measure the bag with the board inside. Outside inter-island flights it's €50 up to 160cm and 23kg, €75 if longer. Over 165cm it won't fly on an ATR at all.
- Weigh it at home. Outside inter-island flights you pay €50 up to 23kg and €75 above; between the islands, watch the 25kg total.
- Reserve space straight away with the ticket, no later than 48 hours before departure, and keep the confirmation.
Where Binter can take you kiting
Binter's destinations include all 8 Canary Islands, among them Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, plus Dakhla and Agadir in Western Africa and Sal in Cape Verde. The island spots are in kitesurfing in the Canary Islands and Morocco in kitesurfing in Morocco.
On the kite safari in Egypt I go on, there are pumps and a compressor on board and a twintip costs €60 for 6 days (2026 prices), so you can leave the board at home. The kite safari packing list covers what else to bring.
