Jet2 kitesurf equipment: fees, weight limits and how to pack
Jet2 names kitesurfing equipment on its sports list and carries it in the hold up to 22kg. You add it through Jet2, though: online booking only offers bikes and golf bags.
Jet2 carries kitesurf equipment and names it directly as Kitesurfing Equipment in its sports equipment table. It travels in the hold only, with a 22kg allowance and a maximum height of 81cm. Jet2 lists sports equipment from £35 online, and the exact fee shows during booking. You can't add a kite bag online, though: online booking only offers bikes and golf bags, and everything else is added by contacting Jet2.
This is based on Jet2's website on 25 October 2026. How other airlines compare is in flying with kite gear: airline fees and packing.

What a return trip costs
For sports equipment Jet2 only says "from £35" and doesn't say whether that's per flight or per trip. Ask for the exact return price when you add the gear.
What you can work out is the excess weight. Jet2 lists it as an airport fee, so the amounts below are per check-in:
| Bag weight | Excess |
|---|---|
| 22kg | £0 |
| 25kg | 3 x £12 = £36 |
| 28kg | 6 x £12 = £72 |
| 32kg | 10 x £12 = £120, the absolute maximum |
For hold bags, Jet2 charges excess per kg only up to the cost of an extra hold bag. It doesn't say whether that cap also applies to sports equipment.
What's different about Jet2
Kite gear is listed, with an 81cm height limit
Jet2 has Kitesurfing Equipment as its own row, so there's no arguing about the category. The row also says maximum height 81cm, and Jet2 doesn't explain which dimension it means. If any side of your bag is bigger, send Jet2 the dimensions before you pay and get confirmation that they'll carry it.
Surfboards on Jet2 get 32kg and up to 300cm in length, kite gear 22kg. Jet2 doesn't say a kite bag can go under the surfboard limit, so plan for 22kg.
You can't add it online
Online booking only offers bikes (up to 32kg) and golf bags (up to 22kg). Other sports equipment, kite gear included, is added by contacting Jet2. The same goes if you've already booked. Space on board is limited, and gear that isn't pre-booked may not be accepted.
Call first, then book
Jet2 also says extra weight allowance for certain sporting equipment needs approval in advance, and you should get in touch before you book. If you've booked a transfer through Jet2, sports equipment may increase its cost.
Claims at the airport only
Report a damaged or missing bag to the Jet2 team at the airport, straight away. According to Jet2, claims can't be processed once you've left the airport. Its liability for baggage is limited and it recommends insurance. What to look for in a policy is in travel insurance for kitesurfing.
Batteries
Power banks, e-cigarettes and spare lithium batteries go in your hand luggage under the seat in front of you, never in the hold. The general IATA rules on numbers and Wh are in flying with kite gear.
Practical tips
- Measure and weigh the bag and send Jet2 the dimensions before paying for the flight.
- Ask 3 things: will they take a bag over 81cm, what does it cost, and is that per flight.
- Save the answer and have it on your phone at check-in.
- Arrive early. Jet2 says outsize baggage takes longer to check in.
- Photograph the bag before check-in and report any damage before leaving the airport.
How to pack a board that survives the baggage handlers is in kite board bags and flying with your gear.
Where Jet2 can take you kiting
From February 2027, Jet2 will fly year-round to Hurghada from 6 UK airports: Birmingham, East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, London Stansted and Manchester. The spots nearby are in kitesurfing in Hurghada and El Gouna. Jet2 also flies to the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife), see kitesurfing in the Canary Islands.
On the kite safari in Egypt I go on, there are pumps and a compressor on board and a twintip costs €60 for 6 days (2026 prices). Leave the board at home and bring kites, bar and harness. The kite safari packing list covers what else to bring.
