Pegasus Airlines kitesurf equipment: fees, weight limits and how to pack

Pegasus lists kites under its SPEQ special equipment category. On international flights it costs €65 per piece and per flight, so a connection in Istanbul adds up faster than you'd think.

Pegasus Airlines will carry your kitesurf equipment and names kites directly: they fall under SPEQ, its special equipment category for the hold. On international flights the fee is €65 per piece. You pay it for every flight, so a trip to Hurghada with a connection in Istanbul means 4 fees for the return journey.

This is based on the Pegasus website on 25 October 2026. The fee table is in euros and doesn't distinguish between paying in advance and at the airport. Pegasus also doesn't count sports equipment towards your checked allowance, so a kite bag can't replace a suitcase.

The general side of flying with kite gear (packing, batteries, claims) is in flying with kite gear: airline fees and packing.

What a return trip costs

According to its route pages, Pegasus flies direct from Istanbul to Prague and from Istanbul to Hurghada, a 2 hour 45 minute flight. From Prague, that means changing planes in Istanbul. Pegasus rules say the sports equipment fee is charged separately for each flight until your final destination.

Situation Sum Return
1 kite bag, Prague - Istanbul - Hurghada 4 x €65 €260
2 bags (kites and board separately), same route 8 x €65 €520
1 kite bag, Istanbul - Hurghada only 2 x €65 €130
1 kite bag plus a 20kg suitcase €260 + Saver fare or higher €260 + fare difference

The price of a fare with a suitcase only shows up when you book. Pegasus prices fares by days to departure, load factor and route.

Everything in 1 bag

Because you pay per piece, I'd pack everything that fits into one bag. A second bag for the board adds another €260 on the Istanbul route. The sums assume the whole bag counts as 1 piece; what Pegasus says about several items in one bag is below.

What's different about Pegasus

A kite bag can't replace your suitcase

Pegasus rules say sports equipment isn't accepted as checked baggage and doesn't count towards your allowance. You always pay for the kite bag separately, even if your fare includes 20kg.

  • Light: no checked bag and no cabin bag, only an underseat bag of 40 x 30 x 15cm up to 3kg.
  • Saver, Saver Plus, Comfort Flex: on international flights a 20kg checked bag and 8kg cabin bag.

If a kite bag and a small underseat bag are enough for you, the Light fare plus the kite bag does the job. If your wetsuit, clothes and the rest go in a suitcase, you need Saver or higher.

Kites are in the fee table, kiteboards aren't

The fee table puts kites in SPEQ alongside gliders and paragliders. The FAQ says SPEQ also covers surf equipment. At the same time there's a separate SURF category, with short surfboards up to 145cm. The baggage rules don't mention kiteboards by name. Both categories cost €65 on international flights, so for a single bag it makes no difference to the price.

You book it through the call centre

Pegasus rules say you register sports equipment through the call centre or at the check-in desk. I didn't find a way to add kites as SPEQ online in the rules on 25 October 2026. Special equipment travels within hold limits, and once they're reached it isn't accepted. So I'd call right after buying the ticket, not leave it to the airport.

Partner flights

If Pegasus sells a flight that another airline operates (codeshare), Pegasus says that carrier's terms of carriage may apply. Check the flight number and operator in your booking.

Batteries and CO2 cartridges

  • Spare lithium batteries can't go in checked baggage, cabin only, with terminals protected against short circuit.
  • 100-160Wh: only with airline approval, a maximum of 2 spares per person. Pegasus doesn't permit batteries over 160Wh.
  • CO2 cartridges for a life vest: I didn't find a specific rule on the Pegasus website, so check with the call centre.

Practical tips

  1. Save the confirmation from the call centre and the Pegasus fee table as screenshots.
  2. Watch 32kg. Pegasus gives no weight for SPEQ, but 32kg is its cap for a checked piece, and a wet wetsuit and sand add weight on the way home.
  3. Photograph the bag and its contents before check-in. What to do about damage is in travel insurance for kitesurfing.
  4. Don't leave it to the check-in desk. If the space for special equipment on your flight is full, the kite bag won't be accepted.

How to pack a board, kites and bar so they survive the baggage handlers is in kite board bags and flying with your gear.

Where Pegasus can take you kiting

Pegasus has its own kitesurfing guide on its website. In Turkey it names Alaçatı, Urla and Çeşme near Izmir and Gökova, Datça and Fethiye, and in Europe spots such as Tarifa.

For Egypt, Pegasus flies from Istanbul to Hurghada. The spots nearby are in kitesurfing in Hurghada and El Gouna. On the kite safari in Egypt I go on, there are pumps and a compressor on board and a twintip costs €60 for 6 days (2026 prices), so you can leave the pump and the board at home. The kite safari packing list covers what else to bring.

Questions

Does Pegasus accept kitesurf equipment?

Yes. Pegasus lists kites under SPEQ special equipment, carried in the hold for a fee. Register it through the Pegasus call centre or at the check-in desk; if the hold limits for special equipment are reached, it won't be accepted.

How much does Pegasus charge for sports equipment?

According to the fee table on 25 October 2026, both SPEQ and SURF cost €65 per piece on international flights. With connecting flights, the fee is charged separately for each flight to your final destination.

Can I take a kite bag as normal checked baggage on Pegasus?

No. Pegasus says sports equipment isn't accepted as checked baggage and doesn't count towards your checked allowance. You pay the special equipment fee even if your fare includes 20kg.

Does Pegasus charge the sports fee again on a connecting flight?

Yes. Pegasus charges the special service fee for sports equipment separately for each flight until your final destination. Prague - Istanbul - Hurghada and back is 4 flights, so 4 x €65 = €260 for one kite bag, assuming Pegasus counts it as 1 piece.
