Royal Air Maroc carries kitesurf equipment free of charge: kitesurf is on its list of equipment transported at no cost, up to 23kg and 220 x 40 x 40cm. You present it directly at the check-in desk. Anything heavier or bigger is charged as standard excess baggage.

This is based on Royal Air Maroc's website on 25 October 2026. The UK English site gives baggage prices in euros and Moroccan dirhams (MAD), not pounds.

How other airlines compare is in flying with kite gear: airline fees and packing.

Royal Air Maroc kite gear in numbers

Category Kitesurf, named among free equipment
Fee €0 up to 23kg and 220 x 40 x 40cm
Above the limit standard excess baggage, paid at check-in
Weight free up to 23kg, no piece over 32kg

How to add present it at the check-in desk
Banned equipment powered by lithium batteries

What a return trip costs

Nothing up to 23kg and 220 x 40 x 40cm. Above 23kg, Royal Air Maroc processes the kite bag as standard excess baggage, charged at check-in.

Option, Europe - Morocco Out + back = total
Kite bag up to 23kg and 220 x 40 x 40cm €0
Kite bag 23-32kg (overweight) €77 + €77 = €154
Plus a suitcase on a fare with no bag (1st additional piece up to 23kg) €100 + €100 = €200

The price list also shows a prepaid price of €66 for the first piece, marked "available only 24h before departure". Whether overweight on a kite bag would be charged once or on each flight when you connect in Casablanca, the website doesn't say.

That a kite bag over 23kg only costs the overweight fee is my reading: Royal Air Maroc only says excess weight or dimensions are processed as standard excess baggage. On a ticket with connecting flights on another oneworld airline a separate, higher table applies, with overweight between Europe and Morocco at €170.

Watch the 23kg

Going by the overweight price, the gap between 23 and 24kg is the gap between nothing and €77 per way. I'd weigh the bag at home and again before flying back, and move heavy things like a wetsuit into the suitcase.

What's different about Royal Air Maroc

Free kite, up to 23kg

Royal Air Maroc names kitesurf alongside golf bags and fishing gear as equipment it carries free. Other sports equipment has its own price list, from €70 up to 23kg between Europe and Morocco. The website doesn't spell out what counts as kitesurf (kites, bar, board, harness); weight and size decide.

220 x 40 x 40cm

A standard bag on Royal Air Maroc can be 203cm in total dimensions at most. Kitesurf has its own limit of 220 x 40 x 40cm. My kiteboard bag guide puts a 138cm board in a 140cm bag, so length is no problem.

Piece concept

Royal Air Maroc counts baggage by the piece and weight can't be shared between bags. Spare kilos in your suitcase won't help a kite bag over 23kg. A standard bag over 32kg or 203cm only travels as cargo.

Dakhla via Las Palmas has its own prices

Routes from Laayoune and Dakhla to Las Palmas aren't in the Europe - Morocco zone and have their own table: overweight €55, first additional piece €55.

Batteries

Royal Air Maroc won't carry equipment powered by lithium batteries and names hoverboards, Segways and similar. I'd assume an electric foil won't fly with them. Rechargeable lithium batteries go in carry-on only, power banks are limited to 2 per passenger, and you can't recharge them during the flight. More general rules are in the guide to flying with kite gear.

Practical tips

  1. Weigh and measure the bag at home: 23kg and 220 x 40 x 40cm.
  2. Fare: on Eco Essential, confirm the kite in advance.
  3. Allow time: the kite bag is presented directly at the check-in desk.
  4. Photograph the bag before check-in. What insurance covers is in kitesurfing travel insurance.

Where Royal Air Maroc can take you kiting

Royal Air Maroc sells flights to Dakhla, for example from Casablanca, and to Essaouira. Its baggage price list also includes Dakhla - Las Palmas. How the two spots differ in wind and water is in Dakhla and Essaouira kitesurfing.

If you're weighing up the Red Sea instead: on the kite safari in Egypt I go on, there are pumps and a compressor on board and a twintip costs €60 for 6 days (2026 prices), so you can leave the board at home. The kite safari packing list covers what else to bring.

Questions

Does Royal Air Maroc carry kitesurf equipment for free?

According to its website on 25 Oct 2026, yes: kitesurf gear up to 23kg and maximum dimensions of 220 x 40 x 40cm travels free of charge. You present it directly at the check-in desk.

What does Royal Air Maroc charge if my kite bag is over 23kg?

Anything above the limit is processed as standard excess baggage. Between Europe and Morocco a piece of 23-32kg costs €77, charged at check-in. Bags over 32kg only travel as cargo.

Does the free kitesurf count towards my Royal Air Maroc baggage allowance?

The website doesn't say. It only says kitesurf up to 23kg and 220 x 40 x 40cm is carried free. Whether that applies on the Eco Essential fare with no checked bag is worth confirming before you buy.

Does Royal Air Maroc fly to Dakhla?

Yes, it sells flights to Dakhla, for example from Casablanca. Its baggage price list also has a Dakhla - Las Palmas route with separate prices.
