TUI fly kitesurf equipment: fees, weight limits and how to pack

TUI fly Germany carries kiteboards as sports baggage at a fixed price per route, set by the length of the bag. Registering it is mandatory and the limit is 30kg.

TUI fly Germany carries kitesurf equipment and lists the kiteboard by name in its sports baggage table. A bag with a board up to 140cm costs from €65 when booked in advance, a longer one from €95, per item and per route. The limit is 30kg and registration is mandatory. At the airport you pay from €105 per item and route.

This is based on tui.com on 25 October 2026. The table shows "from" prices, so your booking shows the exact amount for your flight. How other airlines compare is in flying with kite gear: airline fees and packing.

Several airlines fly under the TUI name, each with its own rules. This guide focuses on TUI fly Germany, which flies from German airports. Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK follow further down.

What a return trip costs

Sports baggage has one price wherever you fly with TUI fly. Suitcases, by contrast, are priced by destination region. The figures assume a direct flight out and back, so 2 routes; with a connection there would be more.

Situation Return
Bag up to 140cm, booked in advance 2 x €65 = from €130
Bag over 140cm, booked in advance 2 x €95 = from €190
Bag added at the airport 2 x €105 = from €210
Bag over 140cm plus 20kg suitcase on Perfect from €190 plus the fare

Bag length sets the price

The gap between €65 and €95 comes down to length alone. Measure your bag at home, padding and pockets included.

What's different about TUI fly Germany

The kiteboard is named, the kites aren't

The table lists kiteboard with a bag length. It says nothing about kites, bar or harness. For surfboards it spells out board with sail, mast and accessories; the kiteboard row has no such note. If you want your kites in the same bag, get that confirmed when you register it.

Pure fares have no checked bag

TUI fly sells 2 fares on tui.com. Pure has no checked baggage, Perfect includes 20kg. The kiteboard fee in the table doesn't depend on the fare. Only for sports baggage over 30kg does TUI fly say the item can be offset against your checked allowance or charged as excess baggage.

Limits change in May 2027

A checked bag on TUI fly can weigh up to 32kg; for weight shared within one booking, the same page says 30kg per bag. For departures from 1 May 2027 the maximum is 30kg per bag. Sports baggage already has a 30kg limit.

Batteries and life jackets

  • Lithium batteries and power banks go in hand luggage only. TUI fly's own pages disagree on the number: one says 2 up to 100Wh, the other 20. I'd stick to the stricter one.
  • Life jackets count towards your baggage weight according to the table, and registration is required. If yours has a CO2 cartridge, I'd mention that when you register.

The general IATA battery rules are in flying with kite gear.

Other TUI airlines

Airline Kite Fee Limit Notice
TUI fly Belgium kite or surfboard €55 per leg 30kg, max 2 boards in 1 bag, up to 3.75m when booking; at the airport +€40 per piece and leg
TUI fly Netherlands (wind)surf, kite, wake or waveboard €55 per one-way trip 30kg, 2 boards in 1 bag, up to 3.50m form at least 3 working days before departure; +€40 at the airport if not registered
TUI Airways (UK) sports equipment in general not published not published call 0203 451 2688 as soon as possible

On TUI fly Belgium these rules cover only flights it operates itself or with partner Freebird (Turkey), and no checked bag is included in the holiday price. Sports equipment can be added up to 3 days before departure and isn't refunded if you cancel it. You may be asked to open the bag at check-in; if you refuse, or in case of abuse, you pay excess baggage and lose the sports equipment fee. TUI fly Netherlands emails you separately to say whether the bag is approved and doesn't refund the fee if you cancel. TUI Airways flights have numbers starting with TOM or BY; it recommends insuring sports equipment for its replacement value.

Practical tips

  1. Register the bag with the ticket. It costs more at the airport, and TUI Belgium and TUI UK both say unregistered equipment may be refused.
  2. Measure the length. Under 140cm you pay from €65 on TUI fly Germany, over it from €95.
  3. Weigh the bag before the flight home too. A wet wetsuit and sand add weight, and the limit is 30kg.
  4. Check the flight number. If your booking includes another airline's flight, its rules apply.
  5. Keep on your phone the sports baggage confirmation and a screenshot of the fee table.

How to pack a bag that survives the baggage handlers is in kite board bags and flying with your gear.

Where TUI fly can take you kiting

tui.com offers flights to Hurghada from 14 German airports, mostly Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart. The flight takes about 5 hours. Some of those flights are operated by other airlines, so check who's flying. The spots nearby are in kitesurfing in Hurghada and El Gouna.

On the kite safari in Egypt I go on, there are pumps and a compressor on board and a twintip costs €60 for 6 days (2026 prices). Bring kites, bar and harness and leave the board at home. The kite safari packing list covers what else to bring.
