Aegean Airlines kitesurf equipment: fees, weight limits and how to pack

Aegean Airlines will carry your kitesurf equipment and names it directly: its sports equipment price list has a Kite Surfboard item, defined as a kite and a board. It costs €60 prepaid and €70 at the airport. The page doesn't say whether that's per flight or per direction.

This is based on Aegean's English website on 25 October 2026. Aegean publishes the fee in euros (and Canadian dollars), not in pounds.

What a return trip costs

Direct flight, clear price

Prague - Athens and back is 2 flights, so on a direct route it doesn't matter whether Aegean charges per flight or per direction. With a connection to an island, it does.

The website doesn't say which applies on connections; check the amount in your booking before you pay for the service. Then there's the suitcase: Light, Flex and Family fares have no checked bag, while ComfortFlex includes 1 bag up to 23kg.

What's different about Aegean

Kite and board in one item

Aegean defines the kite item directly: Kite Surfboard means a kite and a board. So a kite bag with kite and board is one item. Bar and harness aren't named in the definition; I'd pack them in the same bag and list the contents when booking.

Up to 15kg within your allowance

Sports baggage up to 15kg counts within your allowance as long as you don't exceed your fare's number of items and dimensions. Aegean's checked bags are limited to 158cm in total dimensions. A 140cm twintip bag would leave only 18cm for width and height, so this works better for kites and a bar without the board.

Add it online, not by phone

Sports equipment has to be booked in advance: when you buy the ticket, in Manage my booking or at online check-in. Booking through the call center after ticketing costs an extra €8 per passenger. Sports equipment can be booked up to 2 hours before departure. On an interline ticket with another airline, Aegean asks you to contact them about the charge. Its baggage rules only apply to flights operated by Aegean or Olympic Air; on a partner's codeshare flight, the partner's conditions on its own website apply.

Batteries and gas

• Power bank: only 1 per person, up to 100Wh, carry-on only.
• Spare batteries: in the cabin, up to 20 batteries of up to 100Wh, terminals protected; Aegean doesn't accept batteries over 100Wh.
• Athens: since 8 September 2026, the airport removes power banks and spare batteries found in checked bags and sends them for recycling.
• CO2 cartridges: Aegean's dangerous goods page bans gas cylinders and containers; we didn't find an exception for a vest with a CO2 cartridge on Aegean's website on 25 October 2026. Check with the call center before you fly.

Practical tips

• One bag: kite and board in one bag are one Kite Surfboard item.
• Weight: up to 32kg per item; a heavier bag only goes as cargo.
• Miles: Miles+Bonus members can pay for sports equipment with miles, 200 miles = €1.
• Packing: fins off the board, kites deflated, bar in a cover. More in kite board bags and flying with your gear.

Where Aegean can take you kiting

Aegean flies from Prague to Athens; on 25 October 2026 the website showed fares on this route from €83. From Athens it flies to Rhodes, Kos, Naxos and Lemnos. Prasonisi on Rhodes is in the best kitesurfing spots in Europe.
