Vueling kitesurf equipment: fees, weight limits and how to pack
Vueling names kitesurfing equipment explicitly and carries it as special luggage up to 32kg and 2.70m long. Online it costs €45 to €65 each way.
Vueling will carry kitesurf equipment and, unlike Ryanair, easyJet or Wizz Air, it names it explicitly: "Kitesurfing equipment" is on its special luggage list. The limit is 32kg and 2.70m in length. Online it costs €45 to €65 per passenger each way, or €55 to €75 at the airport.
The figures come from Vueling's website and Help Centre as of 25 October 2026. Vueling quotes prices in euros and says they're dynamic: they change with demand, route, travel date and where you buy the service. Its Help Centre adds that the price also depends on the type of special luggage.
For how other airlines compare, see airline fees for kite gear.

What's specific to Vueling
Kitesurfing is on the list
Vueling's special luggage page has a "Kitesurfing equipment" entry, and its page for travel agencies spells it out as board and kite. That removes the guesswork about which category a kite bag belongs to. The fee table's examples of special luggage are bikes, skis, surfboards and golf clubs.
Outbound and return are added together
Added both ways
Online or in the app, special luggage is added to the whole booking, outbound and return. If you only need it one way, say you're taking gear out for a season and sending it home another way, add it via the Customer Services Centre (subject to availability) or book each direction separately.
32kg is the ceiling, a suitcase is 158cm
Special luggage can weigh no more than 32kg; anything heavier can't be carried. A normal checked bag is limited to 158cm in total dimensions. Measure your board bag: if length, width and depth add up to more than 158cm, it can't go as a suitcase and has to fly as special luggage. If you only bring kites and a bar, they can go in a suitcase as long as it stays within 158cm.
Flights operated by another airline
If you bought a Vueling ticket for a flight operated by another airline (codeshare), special luggage for that flight can be booked at the airport on the day of the flight. You check in at the operating airline's desk. On connections with different carriers, the more restrictive hand luggage policy of the two applies to both legs.
A different belt on arrival
In Barcelona and at some other airports, special luggage comes out on a different belt from other bags. If your kite bag doesn't show up with the suitcases, look for the oversized baggage belt.

Batteries and insurance
You can carry up to 2 power banks, each 100Wh or less, in the cabin only and protected against short circuits. They can't be charged or used to charge other devices during the flight. Special luggage doesn't include insurance against damage or loss. Vueling itself suggests photographing the packaging and the item before check-in; if something's damaged, go to the Lost and Found office before leaving the baggage hall to get a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
Where Vueling can take you for wind
Vueling's Help Centre has airport pages for Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Tenerife South, and its page for Essaouira in Morocco offers flights there. For spots on the islands, see kitesurfing in the Canary Islands; for Morocco, including Essaouira, see kitesurfing in Morocco. Whether your route is direct or needs a connection, the flight search will tell you.
Practical tips
- Add the kite bag when you book. The airport price range is €10 higher each way than online.
- Weigh the bag at home. Over 32kg, Vueling won't take it at all.
- Photograph the bag and its contents and keep the payment confirmation.
- Pack it firmly: Vueling recommends removing detachable parts, packing them in the same container and filling empty spaces. For board bags, see kite board bags and flying with your gear.
When you'd rather not bring everything
On the kite safari in Egypt I go on, there's a compressor and pumps on board and you can rent a twintip for €60 for 6 days (2026 prices). So you can leave the pump and board at home. The kite safari packing list covers what else to bring.
What to look for in a policy is in kitesurfing travel insurance: what to check. Rules for other low-cost airlines: Ryanair and Wizz Air.
