flydubai kitesurf equipment: fees, weight limits and how to pack
flydubai carries sports equipment free as part of your checked baggage allowance and names kites in its packing guide. The catch: you have to pre-book the equipment at least 24 hours before departure.

This is based on flydubai's website on 25 October 2026. Airport rates are quoted in euros from flydubai's own currency table. The general side of flying with kite gear (packing, batteries, claims) is covered in flying with kite gear: airline fees and packing.

What a return trip costs
The kite bag and suitcase share one allowance. What you pay depends only on your fare and how many kilos you bring.
| Situation | Extra to pay |
|---|---|
| Kite bag only, up to 20kg, Value fare | €0 |
| 20kg kite bag + 10kg suitcase, Flex fare (30kg) | €0 |
| 20kg kite bag + 10kg suitcase, Value fare (20kg) | 10kg extra |
| Kite bag on a Lite fare | all of it is extra |
The online price for extra weight varies by date, route and when you buy, and flydubai only shows it in your booking. Airport rates are fixed: the euro table lists €15 or €17 per kg between the UAE zone and the Europe zone (which includes Prague), and €12 between the UAE and Africa (Zanzibar) or South Asia (Colombo). So 10kg extra between Prague and Dubai would cost €150 one way and €170 the other at the airport, €320 for the return trip.

What's different about flydubai
Pre-book 24 hours ahead
Don't count on turning up with a kite bag unannounced. flydubai wants sports equipment pre-booked at least 24 hours before departure: by phone through the Customer Centre, or through the Contact us form with "Sporting equipment" as the subject. Acceptance always depends on space.
- Buy a fare whose allowance fits the kite bag.
- Pre-book the equipment through the form and say what's in the bag.
- Save the confirmation and show it at check-in.
Size: 300cm, plus width and height
Normal bags have a 203cm total-dimension limit; sports equipment gets 300cm. Width is capped at 115cm and height at 80cm. Anything bigger, or heavier than 32kg, only flies as cargo. flydubai says some airports have their own limits.
How flydubai wants it packed
flydubai's packing guide has an entry for windsurf boards, kites and surfing equipment and mentions sails as part of it. Remove the fins or pack them in polystyrene foam. Protect the nose and tail with bubble wrap or neoprene foam, the rails with cardboard, and put the board in a padded bag. More on choosing a bag in kite board bags and flying with your gear.
Onward flights with another airline
If you continue from Dubai with another airline, flydubai wants you to confirm acceptance of the sports equipment with each airline and show it the confirmation. If flydubai and Emirates are on one booking, your bag is checked through to your final destination.
Batteries and CO2
- Power bank: only 1, up to 100Wh, in hand baggage; no using or charging it on board.
- Spare batteries: up to 20 per passenger, hand baggage only, protected against short circuits.
- CO2 cartridges: up to 2 small cartridges in a self-inflating life jacket plus up to 2 spares, always subject to flydubai's approval.
Where flydubai can take you kiting
flydubai sells Dubai - Prague flights and flies on from Dubai to places like Zanzibar and Colombo in Sri Lanka. The spots are in kitesurfing in Zanzibar and kitesurfing in Sri Lanka.
If you'd rather skip the pre-booking and limited release, you don't need to bring a board. On the kite safari in Egypt I go on, a twintip costs €60 for 6 days (2026 prices) and there are pumps and a compressor on board. The kite safari packing list covers what else to bring.
